Founded in 1950, Midori, a Japanese stationery company, incorporates beauty and brass into everyday desk items, such as pencils, pens, and rulers. Midori’s items are meticulously handcrafted in Tokyo, Japan. Each object is created by smoothing out brass sheets and slowly molding their shape; a process that can only be done with the utmost care and craftsmanship.
The brass line was inspired by an item found in a second hand store in the US. In the 1950’s brass pencils and other items were made by banks and insurance companies. The beautiful way that the metal aged seemed to tell a story of its past.
Brass, an alloy made of copper and zinc, is bright and shiny, but takes on a unique patina with time. This variation in appearance is produced by oxidation on the surface of the metal, creating a one-of-a-kind vintage look, and connection to the user as a marker of time. This quality makes each piece truly irreplaceable.
Midori crafts sophisticated stationery and writing tools that combine functionality and style. We’re especially fond of the brass range, which evokes old-world élan and polish.
