Jess Hannah has the whole effortless, impeccably dressed and majorly talented thing down. Her relaxed, modern take on style has made her an instagram sensation along with her corresponding blog. But for Jess its always been about the jewels, not the outfit.

Globally conscious but with California ease, Jess has a passion for creating jewelry that is as beautiful in its origins as its final appearance. Her pieces are meant to be worn daily but last forever, and are made from recycled solid 14kt gold and conflict-free diamonds.

Her passion for jewelry can be traced back to her grandmother, Clara. “My first love affair with jewelry was from looking at my grandmother’s jewelry box. The craftsmanship so amazing,” Jess recalls. Inspired by the quality, longevity and beauty of her grandmother’s fine jewelry, Jess uses only gold, silver, diamonds and precious stones, and each piece is made by hand in Los Angeles.

Her mother was a painter and since she was 5 she has been making things with her hands as a daily routine. While studying graphic design in college, Jess walked into a local jewelry store and asked how she could make jewelry. They connected her with another jeweler teaching metal-smithing out of her garage. Jess slowly began accumulating her own tools, including a blowtorch for Hanukah from her parents.

After graduating, she apprenticed with a duo of fine jewelers in San Luis Obispo. After convincing her parents that jewelry really could be a career, Jess started her own line out of her tiny apartment, and eventually moved to LA. She made every piece herself originally, and now she has a bench jeweler in downtown L.A. that helps her with production.

Jewelry is something I will never give up. Its something I’m really proud of and have always wanted to do. I want to prove you don’t need to have a normal job and can still kill it.

Jess’s casual chic style with a modern edge is reflected in her jewelry design as well. She is often inspired by older designs and art deco, but strips them “down to basics to the point that they look modern again.” As a girl who keeps things comfortable with sneakers and tees, her jewelry, though made from the finest earthly materials, is similarly comfortable so you never want to take them off.
