Hannah Ferrera began making minimalistic jewelry after searching unsuccessfully for pieces she herself wanted to wear. Holding a BFA in metal smithing and jewelry design, she set out to make simple, everyday adornments by paring down forms to their minimal state and embracing the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, an aesthetic that values imperfection and transience. She chose the name, Another Feather, to reflect her lifelong habit of picking up stray feathers and the meaning and story that these objects carried.
Hannah handcrafts each item using traditional metal smithing techniques and tools such as saws, hammers and torches ( don’t mess with her!) in her Portland, Oregon studio. Hannah values minimalism in design and environmental impact. She uses recycled metals from sustainable sources and low impact studio practices. Each piece is made by hand, and the unique details this creates is a part of Another Feather’s charm. Inspired by Hannah’s travels, ancient relics, and an appreciation for well made objects and heirlooms, Another Feather brings a no-frills, sustainable perspective to jewelry design that makes it not just another line.
