Discrete functionality and unconventional detailing define the minimalist aesthetic of the accessory line AANDD. An architect turned bag designer, Adam Davidson’s love for the design process spans across fields and has given him a unique eye to create personal accessories with unisex appeal.
Adam is a natural designer. He has always been an avid sketcher and model maker, born with an analytical mind and passion for making things with his hands. He recalls deciding to build Japanese woodblock shoes in second grade after first seeing them. “My sister helped me nail them together, ” he recalls of one of his earliest design endeavors.
He began designing accessories since the architectural industry required such delayed gratification. Adam missed being able to design something and have it quickly realized, so he learned to sew and would make trips to the garment district during his lunch break to source materials.
Today most of Aandd’s products are made in a small family-run factory in New Jersey, with the leather sourced from Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. The line also includes custom hardware from Rhode Island, and rope strung in Italy. While he is no longer making each bag by hand, he works very closely with the factory and incorporates the expertise of the local pattern makers and operators in order to ensure the best possible product is crafted.
A studio driven designer who sketches nearly every day, Adam’s accessories never seem overdone even with all the thought that goes into them. The streamlined and modern look Aandd is known for is a testament to the adage that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
